Description
Very good violin bow by Marie Louis PIERNOT (1880 – 1959) from around 1925-1930.
Louis PIERNOT was apprenticed to Charles Nicolas BAZIN and stayed at the Atelier C.N.BAZIN from 1892 to 1900. He then moved to Paris and worked for VIGNERON Père until his death in 1905. In 1906 he moved to the violin maker Léon BERNARDEL, where he was employed as a bow maker until 1923. Subsequently, he opened his own studio in Paris, where he initially worked for various renowned luthiers who stamped his bows with their own names (a very common practice at the time).
Our bow was made for Joseph TOURNIER (1842-1920), violin maker and dealer in Paris, and also bears his stamp “J.TOURNIER PARIS”. J. Tournier was also supplied by other well-known bow makers such as Louis BAZIN, Louis MORIZOT, E. OUCHARD and Victor FETIQUE.
The round and solid rod is made of the best pernambuco. The ebony frog has a simple eye made of mother-of-pearl. The split gusset made of silver is fastened with 2 pins, the track of nickel silver is fastened with only one pin. The leg is made of 3 parts (silver-ebony-silver) and fastened with 2 pins. The state of preservation of the arch is very good. The weight with a normal silver wrapping is 61.5 grams.
