Description
A very well-preserved violin by Alexandre DELANOY (1850-1928), Bordeaux 1881.
He was the last master who had worked for Jean Baptiste VUILLAUME (1798 – 1875). In 1880, he set up his own business in Bordeaux.
Our violin with the signature: A. Delanoy Bordeaux 1881 26 November recalls in its craftsmanship his work at J.B. VUILLAUME.
The ceiling made of spruce wood has fine and even annual rings, the split floor is made of deeply flame-marked maple wood, where the flames run outward from the joint. The reddish-brown varnish is very transparent and of outstanding quality.
The model is reminiscent of Antonius Stradivarius. On the inside of the bottom and top, the handwritten signature ‘A. Delanoy Bordeaux 1881’ can be seen.
The original note reads:
„Alexandre Delanoy.
Rue Voltaire. Bordeaux. 1881.“
