Description
Very good violin bow from the house of Jérôme THIBOUVILLE-LAMY (1833 – 1902), built around 1930.
Jérôme is the son of Louis Martin THIBOUVILLE. He married Marie Marguerite Hyacinte LAMY in 1861 in Mirecourt. Since that day, he has taken over the management of the company, which is now called Jérôme Thibouville-Lamy (J.T.L.). The company is a manufacturer of various musical instruments such as violins, bows, wind instruments and accessories. From 1870 onwards, J.T.L. was supported by the well-known bow maker Jean Joseph MARTIN, who had a significant influence on the bow making of the company. Even after the death of Jérome Thibouville-Lamy in 1902, the company continued to be run by various violin makers such as ACOULON and BLONDELET. Simpler industrial student bows are created, but the beautiful bows are still made by hand by talented bow makers. The “J.T.L.” house closed its doors in 1968.
The round rod of our bow is made of very good pernambuco and is very strong. All metal parts are made of silver.
The bow bears on the pole the stamp of Louis FRICOT, a bow maker from Poussay near Mirecourt, who worked for the house of J.T.L. from 1912.
The weight of the bow is 62 grams.
