Description

Very well preserved violin by Ernst MEYN (1898 – 1968), built in Stettin in 1939.

Based on the original label and a handwritten signature on the original bass bar, the violin can clearly be assigned to Ernst MEYN. The style of the instrument suggests an influence from the Saxon school.

The unresolved original note for the violin reads:

                       ERNST Meyn  Stettin
                       Fecit anno 1939 No.31.

Ernst MEYN worked as a self-employed violin maker in Stettin. His workshop was on the “Lastadie” on an Oder island opposite the old town. During the Second World War he was “bombed out” and fled to Greifswald, where he worked as a violin maker until the end of his life.
