Description
Interesting violin by François Hyppolite CAUSSIN (1830 – 1898) built in Neufcháteau in the period around 1875.
The violin bears on the inside of the back the note :
Joannes Baptista Guadaguini
Placentinus fecit Mediolani 1760
François Hyppolite CAUSSIN collaborated with his brother Nicolas CAUSSIN (1818-1889). Both had taken over the workshop from their father Francois CAUSSIN (1794-1866) and continued it. The instruments of the CAUSSIN family are usually made in the style of old Italian masters and, as with our violin, bear a facsimile note.
