Description
Very good violin bow by Marie Louis PIERNOT (1880 – 1959) from around 1920.
Louis PIERNOT learned bow making from Charles Nicolas BAZIN and stayed with BAZIN from 1892 to 1900. He then moved to Paris, where he first worked at VIGNERON Père. After his death in 1906, he moved to Léon BERNARDEL until 1923. He then set up his own business in Paris. At the beginning of his self-employment, he supplied various violin makers who stamped his bows with their names, such as: P.BEUSCHER PARIS, P.Hel À LILLE, RENÉ BERNARDEL À PARIS, A. VIDOUDEZ GENÈVE.
Our bow was sold to the violin maker Paul JOMBAR and bears his stamp “PAUL JOMBAR PARIS”. The round and solid rod is made of very good pernambuco. The ebony frog has a mother-of-pearl eye with a silver ring (Parisian eye). The round gusset is fastened with three pins, the web is fastened with two pins. All metal parts are made of silver. The state of preservation of the arch is very good. The weight with a light silver spun winding is 60.5 grams.
