Description
Very good violin bow by Carl Otto DÜRRSCHMIDT (1871 – 1922) from around 1920.
Carl Otto DÜRRSCHMIDT was born in Markneukirchen in 1871. He is the founder of a family of bow makers who are still active in Markneukirchen today. It is not known exactly where he learned his profession. In the family chronicle, the foundation of his workshop is given as 1894 in Markneukirchen.
His bows are usually stamped with OTTO DÜRRSCHMITT. Our sheet, on the other hand, bears the stamp ZIMMERMANN LEIPZIG, a well-known company from the period 1851 – around 1920. Zimmermann had branches all over Europe, namely in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Leipzig, London, Riga, Berlin and also in Markneukirchen. Many of the most famous bow makers from the turn of the century worked for Zimmermann in Leipzig.
The very good bow is made of the best fernambuk, it is squarely planed and weighs 61 grams with a normal silver wrapping.
The state of preservation is very good.
