Description
Very good violin bow by Charles Nicolas BAZIN (1847 – 1915) from around 1900. Charles Nicolas BAZIN, a bow maker from Mirecourt in the Vosges, was the son of the bow maker Francois BAZIN (1824 – 1865). After the early death of his father in 1865, he took over the management of the studio at the age of 18, supported by the well-known bow maker Claude Charles Nicolas HUSSON.
He works according to different models such as model PECCATTE, model VOIRIN and here at our bow after a model VUILLAUME.
The rod is stamped “C.BAZIN”
He has been using this stamp since about 1880/85. In later times there are a variety of other stamps depending on the model, e.g. “TOURTE”, “LUPOT”, “MAIRE”, “TUBBS”, “PAJEOT”.
The bow is made of very good pernambuco wood, it is very strong, but not heavy. All metal parts are made of silver and the state of preservation is very good.
The weight of the bow is 57 grams.
